Day 6 - Helsinki
We checked out of the hotel and walked along Lake Lohlakti which is one of several lakes in the city. There were a lot of geese, ducks and other wildlife on the lake.
We then went to the Olympic Stadium built for the 1952 Olympic Games. We couldn't go onto the track area but did go up the tower to get a good view of the inside of the stadium and also all around Helsinki.
We then made our way to Sibelius Park to see the monument to Finlands most famous Composer.
Overlooking the sea was a small cosy cafe where we had a hit drink and a hot cinnamon bun which was delicious.
Our last visit was to Temppeliaukia Church, which is a church in the rock. There was a high admission charge to just enter and sit in the church. We could see the inside from the entrance and it looked quite modern so we didn't go in.
We came back to the Park and into the Library to have a look around.
We then went to some shopping centres as the rain had started and from the WhatsApp group we could see that everyone who had arrived today were meeting at Henry's Bar so we went to join them and had a meal . For most of the evening it rained very heavily so we were in the right place. At 10 we collected our luggage from the hotel and made our way to the train station for the overnight sleeper service to Oulu. Our carriage had lost all power when we arrived and it took the engineers some time to fix it. It kept going on and off for a while but settled down. The train left on time in extremely heavy rain.
